Contact: smacwnc@gmail.com
Bio: Coach Dan McGuire graduated with a BS in Spanish from the University of Mary Washington where he swam on the varsity swim team for 4 years, specializing in breaststroke and sprint freestyle.
Dan grew up in Fairfax, VA where he swam for both the NCAP and Machine Aquatics club teams. During the summers he swam in the NVSL for Fairfax Club Estates, where he also became the head coach for 5 years. After his college swimming years, he became involved in USMS swimming for both L4 and Alexandria Masters.
Dan also spent a year and a half teaching English in Thailand. When he returned to the US he became a private swim instructor during the day at Swimbox in Fairfax, VA where, over four years, he specialized in rehabilitating injured swimmers and helping individuals improve their swim technique to avoid injury. It was also then that he met his lovely wife, Sydney, who you makes appearances on deck from time to time.
Prior to joining SMAC in 2022, Dan coached at NCAP in Arlington, VA (a top swim program in the US) working as the Senior Head Coach. He was also the Head Coach of the Meridian High School Swim Team and the Head Coach of the Chesterbrook Swimming summer team. Along with being talented as a swim coach, Dan is also bilingual in English and Spanish. He spends his weekends playing video games, hiking, and playing with his cats. Dan is looking forward to continuing to call WNC home as he uses his enthusiasm and skill to continue to build a great swimming program at SMAC.
Andrew 'Zig' Allan, SMAC Assistant Coach

Bio: Coach Zig was born and raised in Naples, FL but his family is from East TN. He grew up coming to the Smokies and can't wait to LIVE in the Smokies and be a part of SMAC! Coach Zig started swimming in a summer league, much like our own Salamanders and the Mountain Swim League, at eight years old. As a club swimmer, he qualified to swim at the Florida Swimming Age Group Championship Meets, Florida Swimming Senior Champs, and competed in the high school FHSAA Championship Meet.
After high school, Zig was given the opportunity to swim for the University of Alabama and compete at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championship. As a coach, he has experience working with the club team where he once began as an athlete and most recently in Kentucky. Between his coaching positions, Zig has helped swimmers compete at Age Group Champs, Southern Zones, Sectionals, and State Champs!
As for joining us at SMAC, Coach Zig says, “There are not enough words or any way to put them together that could describe how excited I am to get to work and grow with SMAC!” Coach Zig looks forward to getting to know the people, places, and things in Waynesville, NC and more importantly to get on deck and work with SMAC!!!
Lee Ann Davis, Assistant Coach
Contact: smac.leeann@gmail.com
Bio: Lee Ann started swimming three decades ago (old) with the original Waynesville Swim Team. She is a native of Haywood County and joined SMAC as one of the very first members in 2000. Lee Ann was active on the Tuscola High School swim team and continued her swimming career on the club team at her university.
Now, Lee Ann teaches full time and dedicates her summer to the Smoky Mountain Salamanders, SMAC's summer league. Lee Ann is happy to help during the school year as necessary but finds that her time is best spent as a board member, parent, and support for Dan and other coaches.
Feel free to reach out to her if you have any questions! This is her third year involved with the team since her daughter started swimming and can help answer questions from parents and swimmers alike.
Trevor joins us for his 2nd season coaching SMAC! He works primarily with our Stroke School & Bronze groups. He learned to swim at a very early age before I was 5 in his grandparents' pool.
Trevor then became a lifeguard in 2007, and also swam for Hayesville High School's swim team for 2 seasons. He attained his Water Safety Instructor certification in 2013, as well as becoming a Certified Lifeguarding Instructor in 2015. He has been teaching both certifications ever since!
He also served as the assistant coach for Tuscola High School as well as the Pisgah High School swim teams for the 2021-2024 swim seasons.
